What motivates me to prefer the October dates is the simple fact that the odds on the trip going (due to weather) are better. This year was the 18th year I have been doing floater trips and over that time I have attempted to do about 7 or 8 trips November 15 or later and I can only recall 1 or 2 of them getting out successfully. It's a crapshoot though. The moon phase is slightly better on the October date but November bites can sometimes be better. That wasn't necessarily the case this year though as I know of two October trips who's catches exceeded ours in November. And like B_Vandy says .... not as long to wait. And for me it doesn't interfere with deer hunting season either. I'd like to see two trips planned. I'm sure there are guys that would do both trips. I'd try to do either date though cause I'd rather fish with you guys than with the finest ........... oh never mind.
