I'm looking for advise on catching good eaters on small lakes (ie. Holbrook, and small city lakes). I've done well on Tawakoni and Palestine in the past. I'm just not comfortable on BIG water in either of my water-crafts (kayak and 10' bass raider).

What should I look for as far as location on small water during cold weather?

What bait in colder weather? I've had good luck in warmer months with Danny Kings punch bait, Live shad, and cut BG. Can't seem to find the shad or BG in the cold weather.

I've never been a "winter-time" fisherman, but as hunting locations are becoming more scarce, I'm looking to spend more time on the water.

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

CJ and DK will both bring a bite in cold water
We put 19 good eaters in the box today using punch bait
Not bad for 4hrs of north wind blowing misery smile

Holbrook is going to be tough, Grand Saline city lake impossible, and Lake Elmo a fair bet. CJ or DK will reveal if they are biting at all, or if you are in the right spot. Good Luck.

I'd forgo the boat and find a bank spot. Try creeks for shad or local ponds for perch. On windy days try fishing with the wind in your face. Cut the bait into nice size pieces and cast out. Sit back and wait for the fun!
