I know of guides who ran them on Fork in the nineties since they usually had 3 grown men and full boat of gear. It got right up on plane no problem and did lose about 3 miles an hour but you talk about grabbing the water and turning on a dime. I ran one with a 200 on my Pantera II and loved it.

You have obviously never been on Lake Lewisville, or Ray Roberts, with a 30mph wind out of the north!

I actually have a Mercury High 5 for this exact reason. Losing 5mph on the top end doesn't bother me when I am working 4 foot waves trying to make it back to the ramp.

I think of props like most think of fishing rods. I have different ones for different purposes. Every time I head to the lake, I choose the one that will best suit the conditions for the day.

I agree with Brian. This is probably the best compromise prop on the market right now. The Bravo 1 XS will be my next prop purchase.

So which prop would your prefer. a 4blade or 5blade for rough water like ray Roberts with a 200hp? Thanks in advance and not trying to stir nothing. Thanks again.

If the wind is gusting less than 20mph, I like my 4 blade 24p Trophy Plus. Anything higher than that, the 23p 5 blade goes on. I run a wide bodied Champion with a 2.5L 200 EFI. This motor has no bottom end torque, but with the 5 blade it handles the rough water great.

Of course, the Bravo 1 XS (a 4 blade) might change my mind.

Thanks Mark about the props. Im running a 25p on my 200 and have never heard of a bravo 1 xs before so I guess im going to have to look up the prop your talking about. I have a 23p 4 blade im going to try out, I have a nitro z8 and I've never ran another prop other than the one that came with the boat. So the 5 blade really helps in the 4 or 5 footer for you. I had a 884 savage and was on ray Robert in a storm and put the 4 blade on and it seemed to help me get in, but it seemed like it took for ever, but at least we got in okey. Thanks for your information and how interesting, Thanks again.

For the most part 5 blades like the high five are extremely good at getting up with heavy loads, slow planing speeds and rough water handling. Top speed will suffer

4 blades like the trophy, bravo etc are in the middle and do pretty well in those categories but not as well, and have a better top end speed compared to a 5

A three blade has the worst hole shot with heavy load, slow planing speeds , rough water handling but the most top end potential.

We run the high five when we are running really heavy , running really shallow and need to pop up fast , or know we will be running in a lot of rough stuff.

The 4 blade we run the most, as its a good do all, and I put a three blade on for light playing, river runs or just fun runs where I want to put up a big number.

thanks for the great info, looks like I'll be checking into the high 5 23P from merc. next spring at amistad or falcon when I've got my 320# partner in the boat it will come in handy. also when me and the wife want to take a slow ride in the boat i will be able to stay on plane. of course I'll be running the 3 blade 26P most of the time, but sounds like the 5 blade will make a great spare.

One thing about a 5 blade you need to consider is you get a lot of forward thrust but very little rearward thrust...you will have less traction for backing up at the dock or stopping before hitting a rock/stump ect....just another thing to consider...if it was my money I would go with a jack plate and negative shims to get more lift on takeoff...good luck

My hi5 sucks out of the hole but I think it is to tall for my motor have a 200 johnson and the prop says 25p it was reworked so I think the pitch is higher than that also need my vent holes drilled out more
