Looked at the weather for today and knew a big northern was going to be blowing through town. I had a long day of exams and labs yesterday so a trip was due.

Launched around 7AM and the drift sock had to make a immediate appearance with the strong east wind. Started with a suspending mullet but no takers. Water was a bit choppy so I quickly switched to a she dog. BAM! That was what they wanted!

From 7:30-8:30 the bite was non-stop. Every cast had big blow ups. No dinks, every trout was 19" only 19" every single one haha. I lost plenty of fish and had a LOT of missed blow ups and tail slaps. 3 nice trout 24"+ inhaled but did what big trout do and just stay put shaking their heads until they come off. Several times BIG sow trout would come up swimming next to the top eyeballing it before tail slapping or missing.

I scratched out a little over a limit of trout in the hour. The Bite went DEAD after 8:30ish. The occasional blow up but definitely not the same action. This is typical as the front comes closer. I switched to the slow suspender to be a little more tempting. BAM! Picked up a nice redfish on the suspender.

I could see the front coming in close around 10:30 so I started paddling back. Nose of the kayak hit the sand right when the winds started blowing through. This front will stick around for a while and will change the way I start fishing for the winter. I'll miss the warm weather but I love me some big trout fishing.

Till Next time
Life is good
