Plan on using a drift sock for the first time. I have an anchor trolley, so was planning on running the 12' line through that. Any tips or suggestions on use of a drift sock? Thanks

Personally I would use about 6 to 8' of that rope with a quick release snap or carabiner. Make sure you got a float on it so if you have to release while fighting a fish you can find it later.

Agreed with the short rope.
Tied small rope to the far end and ran it along with the rope holding it. Pull on the rope tied to the narrow end and you can retrieve it quickly. JMO

I use about 4 feet on my sock with a float, though I rarely actually release it to fight a fish. I have the COD drift sock and it's website says it's 29", but I've had it for 8 years and I think mine is only 24". You'll be good with a 24" sock.

I disagree. I use a 30" & 36" at times both.

Made my own, used 4feet of poly. Works great through the anchor trolley.
Materials used: canvas bag, 15lb BG mono, needle, zip ties. Old 1.5oz jigging spoon, poly rope, carabiner X2, duct tape.

LOL, OK the smallest you should use is 24", and it's what I've been using (I think).

Catfishermen use the bigger socks to really slow it down, Neumie is using it for drifting salt flats which is a different ball game. Both of them are right for their application, choose one based on what your intended targets are and buy/make one that fits.

I have the 30" and 36" and Like Christian I have used both at one time. It really depends on what craft your using also, the bigger the craft the more sock you need to control it. And of Course the speed your wanting.

Good point Bert, didn't think of that since I've never catfished before.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like i'll trim the line down a few feet and add a float. I also like the idea of tying a tag line to the end to make the sock easier to retrieve. As always, appreciate the excellent advice from TFF yakers.
