You will hear a lot of guys say the old ones "hunt" better or run deeper. The fact is that the older baits were molded using less than exact methods. This resulted in less than identical products. Some Warts were easily tuned, some were impossible to tune . End result was that the baits varied widely . When Rapala tried to replicate the old Wart they tightened the tolerances and using their enhanced molding process the baits are actually more balanced and identical in performance unlike the earlier models.

Hope this helps.

I was digging around some old tackle boxes the other day and came across an old WW that I found floating in Lake Michigan when I was 12 years old. Replaced the hooks and split rings on it and plan on throwing this weekend on Travis. Cool story, I know.

All my old ones have been eating by stumps and rocks. I have good luck with the new ones.

I've caught a lot of good fish on a wart new and old style. I don't speak much on my preferences or how I fish them. I will say this when you figure out the bite with them you will probably catch fish that others are not and when its right you'll win the tournament your in pretty easily. When I've gotten them on the right bite with it I usually weight in several pounds over second place but that bite usually requires making the exact same cast a dozen times to the exact right spots and getting the retrieve speed just right to get bit.

I catch just as many fish on the new ones as the old ones since they went back to the old manufacturing process of a two piece mold, the newest ones work alot better although the plastic is still not the same. Just like any crankbait you sometimes have to weed through them until you find the ones with best action.
