Well it has certainly been an interesting week down here at Cedar Creek. The bite was incredible, the freezing temps and winds were incredibly uncomfortable, the bite was still incredible, the temps sky-rocketed, the bite plummeted, the winds picked back up, and the bite went back to awesome. Another day in the office I guess...

The days leading up to the frost, I had three two man limits in a row, fishing jigs and minnows, on brush from 12-20ft. The day after the front, we pulled 45 keepers off of three spots, again from 12-20ft. Thursday and Friday, everything got warm and pleasant, except the crappie bite. Friday and Saturday mornings was where guides either get paid or lose money, depending on how hard they want to work. We finished up with 20-30 keepers on those mornings. Finally, Saturday afternoon the bite returned. We ended the day with 37 keepers, which all came from water 8-15ft deep.

A River Cane Slab Bandit, a High Noon Thump Jumper, and a small minnow have all been working well. I'm asking my customers to vertical jig a couple feet off the bottom, with not a lot of movement needed. The fish seemed to pick up the jig or minnow, instead of giving it a hard thump, for most of the week.

What was so much fun about this week was not only getting to limit three times in a row, but the sheer size of the crappie we've been seeing. We've been catching a couple of fish per outing that top the two pound mark, and I had the pleasure of releasing two 15" inch fish last week, in hopes that they'll one day reach the three pound mark.

Friday 11-8-13 Two Man Limit

Saturday 11-9-13 Two Man Limit (every fish in the front row is over 13", as well as a few on the other rows. I guess bananas aren't all that bad...)

Monday 11-11-13 Two Man Limit (another day of big shouldered limb breams)

Wednesday 11-13-13 Couldn't go four in a row, but 45 keepers ain't bad.

Friday 11-15-13 Had to earn every bite today

Saturday Morning 11-16-13 Still fighting and clawing

Saturday Afternoon 11-16-13 Good to be back!

That's funny that Lane posted the pic with the banana peel. I was giving him a hard time about bringing a banana on a fishing boat and being bad luck. He said it won't matter a bit, I will prove it to you today; and he did. We caught some really big fish and had a great time doing it. My brother in law and I take an annual guided birthday fishing trip because our birthdays are in late October. Last year it was cold and windy and we still managed to catch a lot of fish with Lane. And some in my brother in laws back yard. A cove we fished regularly and came up empty we ended catching a lot of fish in. With the lake down he can't get his pontoon out and I can't seem to get down there often enough. I think next year we are going to try in April and May and get into some hybrid action also. Lane also convinced me I need to invest in some better electronics. Pulling up to some brush piles and not fishing them because no one was home was great. Even if I find a brush pile, I will fish it whether it has fish or not. With good electronics he eliminated the wasted time trying those spots. Also, a fisherman came up to the boat while we were fishing and spoke with Lane - it was the famous Stucky76. Didn't find out til after Stucky left who it was. Very nice rig Stucky!!

Put the plug in.

Congrats on your day man and thanks for the compliment! I couldn't believe you guys were 5 fish away from a limit when I saw you. Anthony and I only wound up with 14 keepers and the bite was tough. Lane's advice was solid and that area of the lake is where we caught most of our fish. Sounds like you guys had a blast.
