For all of you guys that shark fish, ive got a question for you. I have most of the gear i need, ive spent a lot of time on the txsharkfishing website and have learned a lot, ive got a kyak and a rod and reel that can handle at least a small-medium shark. I've got leaders and hooks and plan on catching my own bait and all of that, but weights are my problem. I've got some nice big spiders that i use for redfish and black drum and whatnot, but im going to need something a littel bigger for shark. I do not have any lead and i dont have any access to lead so my thoughts were trying to make a spider weight out of non lead materials. Maybe pvc, copper wire, and concrete... Thoughts? Suggestions, any input would be greatly appreciated especially if you have any experience with it. Thanks,

Ben

blacktiph taught me a super simple way, find a rock/bring a rock , at least the size of a tissue box, wrap 30-50lb mono on it( several times) and then tie the other end of the line to the eye of the hook, its really important that u tie ti to the eye other wise this wont work, when the shark comes to bite your bait, it will cut the line and youlle have a hook up, the good thing about this is that, the shark wont feel the dead weight of a regular spider weight because it will cut the line and not have the rock draging, make sure to use mono that is around 1/2 the breaking stretgh of your main line, and when you drop the bait off in your yak, always let go of the bait first then the rock, iprefer cinder blocks beause you can easily tie the line onto the weight, and if placed properly, the opening in the block will allow the current to go through without picking up the rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTfkQScWQro&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PL242477F65B4389BA chek out his channel he as about 15 tutorial video essentials just n shark fishing

When we use heavy weights we tie them to the hook like pcde123 said , we use 20# mono so it breaks easy. on our smaller weights we rig them so they slide on the leader. Good luck
