Tip or don't tip, it's up to the customer. I'm grateful when I get one, and never give it a second thought when I don't. I'm just happy to be working in this economy. I've got regular customers that never tip. I give them 110% just like everybody else. I'd rather fish a guy twice a year than a big tipper once a year anyday! This sounds like a great guy.

I tip when i feel the guide gave it his all. This is regardless of the amount of fish we caught that day. He/She cannot control mother nature, but can control the experience he gives his customers.
I have done both. Ive tipped big and not at all. Recently I booked a four man trip in Port A for red fish. We went out and pretty much just picked our noses watching rod holders for five hours. We ended up with three fish which was nice, but the guides were impersonal, and just played on their Iphones the entire time. They really didn't even talk much. These guys were terribly expensive and had the nicest boat in the water. They lacked the ability to truly entertain and make the trip an experience. I'm not asking for a dancing monkey, but these guys just lacked the personality and drive to make the trip something worth remembering. These guys got paid for the agreed price without a doubt, but i did not tip them.

I was on a trip with a co-worker & his 10 yr old son at Lake Buchanan where the guide showed up late, no gas, & no bait. We didn't go far out of the cove we launched from and just fished for 4 hours with the few baits he netted by the launch. The guide kept dropping the "F" bomb even with the child present. We caught two small sandies. Needless to say, it was a terrible trip. We didn't tip him & he got upset because he said it was rude of us not to.
Fast forward, I go out with a guide about every other month & share the trip with friends. It averages out to be $100 for me. I tip the guide $50 extra because he works his butt off. He knows I have my own boat & pick his brain constantly. Even with that he works his butt off and shares his knowledge with me and answers every question I throw at him.

Tip anyone you feel like tiping... they will tell you if they do not accept tips.If you do not have the money repay them with kind words or word of mouth advertising.I myself have only been on about 4 guided fishing trips in my life.I tiped my guides on all but one of those trips(not a guide on this fourm that I know of.)From what I have seen good ,and bad reports on the fourm these guys will all work hard to catch fish for you.The one guide that I have fished with on TFF is Matt (Lakeguide)It was a awsome day on the water.I wish I had more cash in my wallet that day. When you have a great day on the water you will not have to ask yourself this question...

My take as a guide is this. I have a stated price and that is what you owe me. I appreciate tips and most people do tip but I do not think hard if someone does not. If a guide has to have the tip money to make it he should go upon on his price. Now on the other side of the coin if a trip does not satisfy me I do something to make up the trip. My customers will tell I have a higher standard than they do on what a good trip is. My thought on the few customers that don't tip is did we have a good trip if I answer yes then I don't worry about it. I have only been on one guide trip that I did not tip. That guide drove the boat and that was it. He did not bait ,net fish . He did nothing but drive the boat. I did not tip because he was a joke of a guide. Johnny
