Thinking of upgrading my rods. What do you guys think about using one of these fiberglass rods being built just for striper and other big game fish. Most seem to be 7-8ft and range from light action to medium heavy action. What are your thoughts? I only use lures..... mostly slabs, sassy shad, and pencil poppers. Snapped a all star jigging rod the other day slabing.....

Rods I'm thinking about buying:
1) Ugly Stick Striper Pole
2) Daiwa Striper Rod
3) Penn Power Stick
4) Airrus Co-Matrix

Would like to keep it around $100.

I have four ugly sticks but have had stripers crack some that broke later. When they hit stripers hit like a ton of bricks. They don't jump they just run for OK.

If you find poles that wont break let me know.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

The white Ugly Stick Striper rods are great for fishing live bait, and adequate for jigs. For jigs I use a different type rod with more sensitivity.

If found this handmade rod a striper guide makes for $375! http://allatoonastripers.com/customrods.html

I may try one after I break a couple of ugly sticks.

I bought a half dozen of the 7' medium Ug Stick Striper rods to try. I've been using them since early August. They're great for live bait fishing but too heavy and floppy for artificials. Just my .02.

The Ugly Stick Stiper Rods I bought are the medium action. I liked the idea of the Striper rods because you can get the lighter action rods but still have the double enforced eyes that come on the heavier action Ugly Stick. The eyes that come on the lighter action Uglies and the Ugly Stick Lites are junk in my opinion. And the medium/heavy action Uglies are too much like a broom stick. Heavy, stiff, and a total pain if you are going to try to work a lure with them.

For me. Those cheap eyes will start breaking within a week.

I can't affort to buy the best rods on the market and use for "rental equipment" but with the Striper series by Ug St. Ive found a happy medium.

I have several ugly sticks, white striper rods, lite, regular, and gx2. I have never had one break. I even caught a 50 lb fish with an ugly stick lite. It bent that pole everywich way but in did not fail. Ugly sticks are great rods for a reasonable price.

I caught a 50 and 30lb striper on an Ugly Stick Lite, pflueger president reel, 12 lb mono and a Smack Tackle Flitter 4.

If I bought a 375 dollar rod I would loose in the lake the first trip.
