Primarily for bass fishing.

What is your location in the State?

What water do you call home?

Mine is the Llano River, and I can see one more trip the next warm day.

Can't speak to the Llano specifically, but my experience in moving water is keep fishing as long as you can stand the cold. Just change tactics, i.e. go deeper and slower, much much slower. Just my thoughts. cool

In this life there is fly fishing and tying...and then there is all that other stuff in between that doesn't matter.

Fly fishing is a year round activity. When on species calls it quits, there's always other fishes to go after that the other guys avoid.

Smallmouth is a good example.

When it's too cold to wet wade. I might sometimes get one more trip in standing on the bank, but that's usually not very productive.

The only fishing I generally do in the winter is when they throw trout in one of the local ponds. Still waiting on TPWD to post the when and where this year.

a boat makes for a longer season for sure. Stripers on Texoma are on all year pretty much if you can stand it.

I call it a year on 12/31 at 23:59:59. but really, the water is so different across the State that it's hard to pinpoint when to hang it up. I find myself wanting to go south or to the coast -- and the salt's a year round thing. It's hard, and pretty unrewarding to try to hit the bass year round - round here. Like Robin says, stripers can give you a fish fix you won't soon forget - and right now.

I've noticed that in the winter if there are a few warm sunny days in a row the bass will move up rather shallow and feed. I've caught nice bass in a few feet of water in January.

Winter is when I usually start looking at pickerel, though.
