Up to two weeks ago the slips where I keep my boat were full of bluegill when the mercury vapor underwater lights came on each night.

They were fun to fish for with ultralight tackle. I am the only one on the dock who fished for them and I always returned to the water those I caught.

However the last two weeks they have not been there.

Before each slip would contain a dozen or more large bluegill swimming near the surface in the lighted area once the lights came on. More were deeper where they could not be seen.

However they are now gone. Last night I saw a total of three bluegill in the four slips with the underwater lights. Larva tipped hooks did not receive any bites so I doubt they were down deep.

So I am wondering where they have gone.

The Gills will be going to deeper water and will be starting their winter patterns. peep They will become less active until spring. fish

Side Note: You can catch Bluegill during the winter by fishing deep usually 15 to 25 feet. Try to find some good brush piles in that depth. thumb

The will be deeper and less active. Especially after the latest cold front.

Find you some good sunken brush piles in 12 to 18 feet of water! thumb

That's too bad. I enjoyed catching them in the pool of light in my slip each night the past few months.

Up till a few weeks ago I saw dozens swimming in the light. Now I only see one or two swimming there. They look so lonely by themselves. smile
