Today was the North Texas Casting for Recovery retreat. After having been in several spots along the Paluxy fishing a crawfish pattern, an egg-sucking leech pattern, a diver with no luck, we decided to head towards one of the nice pools near the retreat's lodge. Along the way, we saw many, many active minnows of nice size, so, I tied on Big Dale's Bonefish Fly, and the bass loved it. I really enjoy this fly whether I'm in saltwater or freshwater, either way, it's winner, winner, fish for dinner success!

Les I agree with you Les, and I'm so glad you were able to be a CfR River Helper this year. The ladies are always so funny and so kind and so enthusiastic. Glad you had a good time, too!

This is a fly that I learned to tie from Jim Green 15 or 20 years ago. He calls it a Polarflash Clouser. Jim sells his flies on e-bay and the thread below about where to order flies has a pointer to order some from him. There is just something magic about the way fish are attracted to clousers tied with this stuff. It is available from Janns Netcraft and while you are ordering it you may as well order some of those great Eagle Claw 413 jig hooks that George introduced all of us to a long time ago now. (where do all those years go?).While you are ordering some oof those flies from Jim,also order a few of his dubbed woolies. Those simple little flies catch buckets full of fish.
Julia is great about letting me know where she has caught fish on the Polerflash clousers all over the world for a bunch of years now.
All you fly tiers need to tie a few dozen pink and white flies to give to the girls of Casting For Recovery. They always smile and say thanks for those donations.
Big Dale
Have fun with this stuff.

I finally sent in my paperwork so hopefully next year I'll be a river helper. Cody kept asking me why you haven't been here, so I'm glad you have completed this step. The ladies are a hoot, and this area of the country is pretty this time of the year. I enjoy it when our paths crisscross, and this one is a goodie!

Big Dale Nice history of this great fly, but for Cody and me, it will forever be Big Dale's Bonefish Fly. On my lady's second caught fish, Diane asked what I had on, and I replied, "Big Dale's Bonefish Fly;" to which Diane immediately replied with a knowing nod, an, "Ah! Excellent choice from a great tyer!" And we watched a lady have fun bringing in a fish! If I had said Jim Green's Polarflash Clouser, no instant recognition, aha, or understanding. Glad to give Mr. Green credit, but Big Dale, you made it famous!
