Send that bug over to Chris at Classic Fiberglass and see what can do with it!
No really sorry for the loss man. That would hurt to see my boat on fire... I hope the insurance will cover this loss.

Just to let everyone know, no one was hurt, but this boat was on fire for 4 hrs and not enough insurance to cover everything, just saying.

How does that even happen, heard of motors catching fire but that?!, if I was the insurance company I would be more than a little skeptical, just sayin'. Maybe you should understand a bit more about fume point vs flash point in fuels and how easily and armature will spark when it's older and the brushes are worn before you go accusing someone of insurance fraud. Otherwise you might come off as sounding like an inconsiderate jerk with no knowledge of the subject at hand, just sayin'....

Because I know what flash point is, and I know what vapor point is. I even understand lower explosive limits and upper explosive limits. I know what makes a bilge pump work. I know that the motor in a bilge pump is sealed. If it were not the water would short it out and it would not operate. The only thing open on the bilge pump would be the impeller. Please explain what "fume point" is because in my professional career as a firefighter I have never heard of this term. Also how a sealed watertight motor could create a spark to ignite fuel vapor?

Fume point and vapor point are the same thing, it's been 15 years since I was in FF school to be certified for shipboard FF, shoot me.
Motors don't remain sealed, things break down, housings crack, and a worn commutator with weak brush springs sitting on a flat spot will spark it's !@# off when power is applied.
I don't see insurance fraud here, there are safer ways to commit it and it wasn't fully covered anyway.

Ins job! Bilge just happened to come on and kaboom? Lots of holes in this story! First its a newer boat and he never noticed the fuel smell coming from his boat? Further more the bildge pump that came on just happened to come on because of? Must have been a piece of rebar that punctured the hull and the gas tank at the same time, causing the defective bildge pump to ignite it lmao..

I am surprised some here find this situation suspect. I suppose anything is possible but I don't see reason for suspecting. I am glad no one apparently got hurt. This is exactly the type of situation that illustrates why I have always had and suggest everyone else carry a large liability coverage along with an additional chunk of coverage for EPA mitigation. Have any of you thought about what would have happened if he was at a marina pumping gas when this occurred ?

This is why I think it's a joke to carry a fire extinguisher on board and they write tickets if you don't. If something catches on fire I'm jumping in the water. Hopefully everyone is okay....heat that fire extinguisher enough and you have a boom, would anyone on here head over with their extinguisher to try to put it out? knowing something else could blow any second?! I see a fireman posted on here, I know they are rated and pressure tested but will they hold up being heated to 1000 degrees without busting?

Saw a brand mew boat catch fire on Santee Cooper few years ago the guy had just taken delivery on it. So boats can catch fire without it being an insurance job but just maybe the people saying this was an insurance job work for the sh***y insurance company I have my insurance with.
