I would like to say thanks for all the good answers on going from mono to braid. Here is my question because braid is smaller and a little more costly should I leave some mono on my reel and spool braid on top of the mono ? I am on a fixed income.

I always spool about 30 ft of 8 or 10 pound mono before my braid.
I like power pro 20 pound test braid backed by triline xl mono.
And I use an albright knot to connect the two lines.

I match the diameter, not the lb test. Example:65lb braid to 15lb mono backing. I put enough on to barley see holes in the spool.
