I have a Lowrance Gen2 8 on console and a Lowrance Gen 2 7inch on a brand new boat. These are not touch screens. My dealer told me I needed 2 Navionics chips, but I am understanding these units will share one chip. I have only opened one of these and I am questioning what the boat dealer told me. Do any of you gurus know for sure? These are by far the best electronics I've ever had, so I'm in a learning process?

If you install the current update (2.1) on BOTH graphs and have them ethernetted then they will share 1 card.

Yeah I kinda doubt the update would be on them, no telling how long they've been sitting on the shelf. But you can look on the graphs files page (I think that's where it's at) and see what version you're running. It's somewheres on there, I just can't remember exactly.

Do the 2.1 update on both units, connect 'em via Ethernet, and all you need is one Navionics card. But...if you happen to only want one graph on rather than two....then you better have the one on with the chip in it. If you are worried about your battery life....you can turn the unit on with the chip in it,....., then put it on standby to save juice....but at least the other graph can detect it.

Its about time they came up with this. Having to buy 2 of every chip sucks.
