Are they worth it? If so, I was thinking about putting it on the Christmas list. Should I get the flex or stiff blade? Wide blade or tapered blade?

If your only gonna use it for crappie get the 9 inch tapered blade. The 9 inch flex is a bit better on sandbass especially if there bigger sandbass.
I am fortunate enough to clean about a thousand fish per month on average. It's the only knife I use. I've used the same knife over a year. The Teflon is gone but it still works well. I sharpen it often as would any chef or butcher. When they recently came out with the 9 inch tapered blade I found that I like it better on the crappie. It's easier to turn the blade since its not as tall of a blade.
Using a regular knife isn't for everyone. It takes practice to be efficient with one. For me its a cost issue as much as it is being functional. I find it to be both cost effective and functional.
Good luck in your decision.

This. As long as it's sharp!

I've been using one over a year now, and I won't ever go back to electric. My hand/wrist no longer hurts, and with a little practice, the fixed blade traditional knife is quicker than an electric knife. There's no waiting on the blades to saw through the fish, as one does with an electric filet knife. As long as the blade is kept sharp, the angler shouldn't have to put much effort into slicing.

I bought a Work Sharp Tool Sharpener from a local hardware store to keep an edge on my Bubba Blade. I was a little skeptical at first, since the sharpener cost me around $85, but I can literally touch my arm and the hair will go flying after just a few minutes with the Work Sharp.

I will clean an average of 125-150 fish before I need to resharpen the blade. Too me, that is the sign of a good piece of metal.

I got the same sharpener and you're right, it's awesome! Even sharpens serrated blades!

Ya'll need to be more responsible about you say. I went out and bought 9" flex and the sharpener based on the comments here. Cost about $175. Now I will have to buy about that much in shoes, lingerie, or something for the wife meaning ready ya'll stuff is a very costly deal, about $350. And that doesn't include the punishment, which could be significant. Aren't you ashamed of yourselves?

OMG Uh--oooooo!
Maybe try plan B; first buy a $75 gift card to Kohl's for her, then order that fishing gear a few days later. You could always claim you're starting a research project for TFF to see how many times a Bubba Blade can be sharpened before you have to buy a new one. rolfmao
