Between tournament fishing, deer hunting (bow and rifle), and duck hunting I'm pretty sure my wife is gonna leave me if I find one more hobby but............. I have been thinking about getting into fly fishing for a while now. I am looking at getting a Cabelas RLS+ 6 wt combo. I plan on using this setup to chase down bass, sand bass, and small stripers on occasion. do y'all think this setup will be enough. I know I should probably go with the 8 wt but I want a rod that is still light enough to allow some versatility. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That ought to be perfect! Actually you will want to wind up with a three weight as well as an eight weight because all fly anglers are required to have at minimum three rigs

I'm right there with you - except for the tourney fishin'. I bought my first fly rod 2 years ago. Since then, I've added another rod and 3 more reels. I've also added a tying vice to my desk.
These days, the fly rod is about the only thing I use. Go getcha one!!!

You should have plenty fun with the 6 wt. I think the 8 would be a little overkill for just bass. The 6 may be a little challenging for stripers if you get in to the big ones. You will start with a 6 wt, but you will also need a 2 wt and an 8 wt;) Its an addiction once you get that first fish on the fly. Don't be discouraged if it takes a while to get that first one.
If you are looking to get some casting lessons you should stop in at Backwoods in Fort Worth and talk with Steve. He can have you casting good in no time.

Well I pulled the trigger on that one. I'm sure I will have many questions to come.
I also purchased a couple of different leaders, some 8# and 10# tippet. I got an assortment of clauser minnows and an assorted pack of streamers. And naturally a fly box. What else do I need to get going except a lot of time and patience?

My first fly rod was a 4wt. And then... a 6wt, 7wt, 8wt, another 4wt, and now a Spey rod, a vise and a buccos tying mats. I think I have an addiciton, but in a good way.

J. Steve is right. Just be patient learn to cast and you will love it. Next step tie your own flies.

I am looking at getting a Cabelas RLS+ 6 wt combo. That's actually a pretty spot on setup. Honestly, I haven't used an 8wt in years. 6wt is my go-to across the state. That being said, stiper is my favorite target.
