I just started fishing sabine lake and had a lot of success fishing under the birds. Is this an all year round thing or do the birds migrate and disappear?

Mostly happens as the shrimp are migrating into or out of the bay systems.

Is this a seasonal ordeal?

Yes, spring and fall. Enjoy it while it lasts.

and the fall is much more pronounced.

If you know where to look and which bird species to look for there can be some bird action all year... but what you are experiencing is mostly a fall occurrence.

...year round I always look for birds.
Here where I live in the Galveston area the birds haven't really turned on yet.
Why you might ask? Well here's why. When I head back into the back of Greens or Caranchua and get really into the back looking for flatties and reds there is one thing that I notice. There is still so much bait in the back that I have to wonder what month it is!
Full of shrimp,finger mullet,and shad.
Nothing is going to happen "Bird" wise until we have a couple of fronts that blow the heck out of the water and get the bait cleaned out of the back marshes before we see birds working in the morning....or when the tide goes slack. THEN it will be on!

...so good it tastes like it died screaming!

sabine bird action the past few years is unreal. second to none on the coast for the amount of fish in that bay system.
