Whether it would ever work, who knows, but when you're riding sand dunes on ATV's, dune buggy's, etc., you have a buggy whip flag. Mainly for reasons like this boat crash, to help be seen in blind spots. The whip the flag is on is probably 8-10 ft tall, so could it be seen over saw grass, cat tails, etc.? South Fl, Louisiana Delta, any place that has you running down a "lane" would be a good place for some extra visibility. Just a thought....

That's a great video. Wow that lake is hard-core. That route looks about as safe as running end to end on Fork without being in a boat-lane.

Looks like "both" were going too fast and actually both are at fault. It's like blaming an auto accident on rainy weather rather than accept responsibility for bad driving.

I agree both where at fault but the guy in the videos initial reaction was that the turned into us and bleeped us up. It's pretty clear in the video that both drivers tried to miss each other. They are extremely lucky that it didn't end a lot worse than it did!

Seems pretty stupid too me to be running a $60k bass boat down an airboat trail (that is barely wide enough for one boat)with poor visibility!

Most of the airboat guys down there have already learned their lesson and sport a flag about 8' tall that can be seen over the top of the reeds.

And now they sit back and watch is dumb bass fishermen run into each other while saying "Reckon when they'll catch on and start running them a flag?"

Maybe y'all prostaffers an kill two birds with one stone here. Fly your sponsors flag real high.

That brought me back 30 years ago. I grew up fishing that lake. The boat lanes through the cattails intersect, criss cross and merge together everywhere. I look back and think how stupid we we're to run those trails wide open.

I'm surprised that kind of stuff doesn't happen more often, when you've got guys that are man enough to run canals like that with little visibility and not much room for error. No fish is worth that!

That's the normal thing down there. I sho wouldn't idle that lane....you runneth over!

I have only been there once....and my butt hurt from clinching up for 2 days of running the canals.

Only good thing is...there aren't any stumps! wink

If you get in those trails they are so shallow in many spots you can't set your boat down. Airboats are required to run a buggy whip type flag. They aren't required in bassboats and probably won't do much good as the bassboat driver sits much lower and wouldn't be able to see the flag.
