I have two lead acid batteries connected in series to run my 24V trolling motor. Nothing else is connected to them. When I come if from fishing, I connect my dual bank charger and every time, one battery always shows a full charge and the other always indicates it is taking a charge. Is this an indication one battery is going bad? I've checked the wiring and it appears to be ok. Obviously, it is wired correctly as the trolling motor works fine. Any thoughts?

It might be the charger. I'd switch banks and see what happens.

Had same thing, it was a battery. That's what I'm thinking and wondering if it means the one battery is actually going bad or if no two batteries will ever discharge equally?? Or if that is even the problem.

Put a meter on the battery before you hook up the charger, then check it again when the good battery shows charged. I would check both batteries and both banks before and after. You could also have both both batteries load tested.

. You could also have both both batteries load tested. 1)So one battery "never" reaches a full charge? Trolling motor batteries are likely deep cycles......a typical load test at the auto store will result in amp numbers that will not show us much about actual battery condition. Battery swap would help confirm suspect charger bank is OK. If it can finish charging cycle on the swapped battery and the working charger bank now does not finish its charge on the suspect battery, we know the battery has internal leakage issue or a failing battery cell. If the combined battery life is still acceptable to you for your trolling, keep on fishing. You simply have an aged battery preventing the charger bank from reaching its' float stage. Before long, one or both old batteries will likely be over discharging (below about 12.volts) and needing replacement(s). 2) So both batteries reach full charge with one just taking longer? Battery charging up first is taking least amount of charge and has lesser capacity. It is either the smaller, older(less remaining lead) or more sulfated of the two. As long as it is not being overly discharged and trolling motor use time is satisfactory, not an issue.
