I was in our local Academy and saw that they had their allstar rods on sale for 79.88, they are normally 139.99. I don't know much about them, it sounds like a good price. I was interested in their shakeyhead rod and a worm/jig rod. Any advice would be appreciated.

Allstar rods were as good as they came before the sell out to Pure Fishing. I still have several original Houston made models but I personally wouldn't give a dime for one of the new ones. Check out TFO Gary Loomis Signature series rods, they are an amazing rod for $99 and the Tactical Series are as good as they come for only $149.

All star rods are decent, the best thing about them for me is the no hassle exchange at academy if it gets busted. But I would also agree with whats said above, there are better rods for the price. St. Croix Mojo rods are only 100 bucks and they to are better

Imo out of the new all stars the classic on sale is the only decent buy. I've broke nanos and asrs like they were twigs. I take care of my equipment also. As stated above there are better rods for the price.

There are better choices out there but I have had little to no problems with the All Star rods I have. I did have an insert break out of a line guide on an older IM10 Team All Star Skeeter rod but I just replaced the guide. It's not rocket science.
IMO the Falcon originals are good rods if you don't want to break the bank.

Thanks for the info, where would you suggest the best place to find these rods?

99 bucks and can get a falcon BooCoo at Walmart or Bass Pro, very good rod for the money and Walmart will take them back if anything happens!

For $100 now you can get so many top end rods it doesn't make sense to get an expensive allstar. The classics are the only ones I fool with because they're cheap. But I just spent $100 on a new Kistler. . .I can't imagine wasting that much on an allstar. . .
