All the fish have been caught out of Ivie, so the wife and I thought we might leave West Texas the day after Christmas and head South to the coast.
We are thinking two to 4 weeks will either cause us to sell out and move to the coast or test Louisiana next. Is the fishing any good that time of the year. I am not bringing my bass boat. Thought maybe a trip or two with a guide and then wade fishing? Is that a plan or the wrong time of year for the Aransas Pass area? Should we consider another area?
Where do we stay that allows our Sheltie? Good monthly rate, centrally located, clean? We would like to stay where fisherman stay on trips down there. We are not resort types. Our only salt water experience has been San Diego/San Francisco day trips with 50 other people....we really want to avoid that scenario. I want to see the bank and be able to use my bass equipment.
Any clues or words of advice would be appreciated. Yep all the fish are gone from West Texas

First time we stayed the lady said "I am not fancy, but I am clean" She was spot on, but she should have also said comfortable. They allow pets and have a good fish cleaning station. Pretty quite too. http://kingfishcourts.com

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

"Quite?" We are going to call the lady, thank you. Is there a usable ramp on Oak Creek these days?

"Quite?" We are going to call the lady, thank you. Is there a usable ramp on Oak Creek these days? Yeah yeah Let's try it's quite quiet. there aren't any more ramps open. One of them isn't locked up, so if you have something that can be launched by hand it works, but nothing to launch a boat that has to motor itself up on a trailer. As for fishing it can be really good in winter, but there are tough days for me. I have a friend I fish the salt with and we make winter trips 2 to 1 to any other season. My limited experience has me believing that winter fish concentrate in smaller areas creating great days if you find them or long days hunting. I do think guides are an excellent idea and had planned on one this Thursday but the wind is going to be more than I want to deal with. I don't have any suggestions for guides because I kayak fish and slow ride guide is the only one I know of for yaks. He also does boat trips, but I don't know how he compares to other guides. Also party boat trips might produce some state water snapper but pick ur day because the gulf gets rough in the winter. Good luck I think you guys will have a blast. Check out Winton's candy store in port a. They have home made fudges and caramels, good stuff

Decent rentals in Arroyo City, December fishing there is extraordinary, get you a place with a lighted dock, you might call the real estate agent and tell them you ain't leaving.

Rockport is called the "Toast of the Coast" and for a good reason.
It has one of the top rated Beaches in the nation, some great restaurants, the Texas Maritime Museum, and is host to an "artist community" as in a lot of artists live here, produce excellent work and are active in doing things to improve the quality of our community.
It is on a peninsula, therefore, no matter which way the wind blows - you have a spot to go wade fish.
You have a choice of 7 bays to wade fish if you know the right spots.
Fishing is good year round, .... and this time of year is my favorite because you don't have to break a sweat at dawn before you go "catching".
