i have a 571 hd di portable can you put it on the side or does it have to be at back

You can put it the side. There are several different types of mounts you can get

I started with the nano liberator but fish in a heavy timber lake and constantly hung it on things. I switched to a scupper mount which worked better. Nano liberator is very portable though.

You always have the option of gooping it to the hull and do a shoot through.
