to paint my Merc cowling? It has some spots in it that won't come out and I think it just needs to be re-painted. Anyone know what that might cost?

If no body work is needed you would be looking around 200-250 for a quality paint job imo materials alone would be around 80-100

If it is one of the late model ones you can't really paint them. If it is the older cowl then any paint and body shop can help you.

If it is one of the late model ones you can't really paint them. Why is that? It's a 2001 EFI. Can that one be painted? Interested to know why some can't be painted.

The new ones are an injected plastic vs fiberglass. Plus they flex too much since they are much lighter. If you paint a new one, it will end up cracking because of the flexing. Plus the issue of the plastic. It is hard to get a primer to stick to it.

Hey Mike and Tommy for future reference on painting plastics.
We built a short haul cargo plane out of a business jet back in 1996. In order to make the shipping company logo work across the sides the poly carbonate plastic windows had to be painted along with the skins.
As it turns out if you rough up the surface of the plastic and apply a coat of oil based enamel first you can paint over it with etch primer and add what ever top coat you like.
Give it a try it has worked in the past for us on aircraft that fly over 400 MPH.

I wonder how good a wrap would work.
