Alright guys, I broke my right leg a couple of weeks ago and had to have surgery (2 screws). And needless to say I haven't been able to get in the bass boat because my leg is in a straight leg cast, I can put a little weight on it. But does anybody have any ideas on how I could get in the boat to go to the club tournament next week? Its a Ranger 374V.

What happens if the driver hits a wave, your foot crashes on the deck, your screws break loose and displace the the bone again. Bone infections are not pretty, I've seen plenty. They are nasty painful situations that take lots of therapy and pumps/medicines. I would be very careful.

sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all.

that is the advice I will offer after multiple bone breaks over the years. I still have bad popping in my right wrist and my ankle swells and hurts like hell from me wanting to go do stuff after a nasty fall off a house in 78.

what if for some reason you fall in the lake? how you gonna get back in the boat?

not a good idea to push a broken bone before it is healed.

Go to the fish market. Not worth it. Let it heel. Prayers up.

1000+ This is good advice. I have worked ortho surgery ,let it heal right the 1rst time min 4-6 weeks, other wise the clock restarts and the bones are less likely to fuse, worse as you get older, or if you smoke. DON'T Do It!

So many tournaments, so little time....suck it up and go on out there and try it. Chances are it'll only cost you more medical $$ after it's over but think of the status a win could get you, as short-lived as it will be.

I'm 67 years old and retired and wish I could take back some of the stupid a** stuff I did when I was younger.

It's not too late for you. Just go on out there and support the guys who are able to fish; assist with the tournament from the dock. Staying mobile in later life is everything.

I am on a walker waiting to get the hips replaced and I still get in the boat and go.

-Little kitchen stool 12" tall with a rope through the top to pull it up into the boat.
-Place stool near the back step trailer pad.
-Turn around backwards.
-Step up on the stool
-Step up on the trail finder pad.
-Sit on the side of the boat and scoot across to the opening between the seats on the back deck.
-Slip down into the Seat and you are good to go.

I'd encourage you to re-read all the comments except the 'How To' one.. There will hopefully be plenty of more tournaments and days on the Lake after the leg heals sufficiently. Lots of windy, blustery days this time of the year and the beating you may take on one of them just isn't worth it in my opinion!

Good Luck with your leg!

I know it is hard to stay home however it is best to let leg heal properly. I had both shoulders operated on and was down thru summer. Bite the bullet

good decision, I had a partial knee replacement and had to miss a couple last yr.
at my age I would rather heal than push my luck anymore.

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since my ORIF surgery (Plate and 11 screws on my right leg a couple of inches above the ankle). This has to be the most frustrating thing I have ever dealt with as an adult from a health related aspect. Stay off your leg until it is healed up!! I've been stuck in the house for 3 weeks now and really would like to get out and start doing things but really don't feel like regressing. Just the change from a cast to a boot yesterday has me laid up today in significant discomfort. Hopefully within the next 4-6 weeks I'll be back on the golf course and you'll be back on the lake. Good luck!!

Take care now or you may pay later like I did. After 3 surgeries and wearing a wound pump for 4 1/2 months my leg only took 8 1/2 months to get out of a cast or boot. Nearly lost my lower leg from trying to do too much too soon. Take care of it now and don't take the chance.
