I'm pretty new to the DFW area and bass fishing in general, especially on the fly. My home waters are northern AZ, chasing trout. While I have far from mastered that elusive species, I have a good grasp on how/where to catch them. That being said, life now finds me in Irving, fishing with every spare moment. I guess I've kinda turned into a bass guy now. I'm currently trying to find water that holds a couple of bucket mouths that I can chase. I'm not after a double digit bass, just one I can fit my fist into it's mouth! I might have found a place near my "home" pond (a place I often fish and catch decent bass, but no huge fish). More on this later Now comes the questions - 3 weeks ago top water was on fire on my "home" pond. Then the rains came. Top water shut off. It has yet to come back on. I've adapted and switched to a sink tip line, stripping clousers - generally white with tan. I've done fairly well so far, but need a little help with this cool weather bass. It's basically November now. So - what do I throw? Continue with the clousers since they are working? I'm throwing size 6 - go bigger? Smaller? On my "home" pond, I have come across a lesser fished area, probably due to its lack of accessibility.... [img:center] [/img] It's shallow at first (2.5-3) then drops off. Lots of brush. Some "big" bass in there. This time of year, what do I throw? Since I'm new and already asking tons of questions, I better appease the fish gods and old timers out there and show you some of my best trophies. Here is a "normal" sized bass for my pond: [img:center] [/img] And another that nearly took me to my backing: [img:center] [/img] But really - here is my personal best bass: [img:center] [/img] [img:center] [/img] Thanks for the help!

Nice fish. No specific advice to offer, except that when you're prowling ponds & similar small waters, be watchful for cottonmouths!

Texas ponds are usually full of crayfish. A high protien staple for winter bass. I don't bass fish anymore, but my go to was an imitation with red squirrel "pinchers" tied as a split tail, dark olive chenille body over a weighted hook, palmered hackle, gold rib and scud back to make the hackle lay down like legs. They liked it on the fall. Strip 3-4", let settle for several seconds, strip again.

Bunny hair crawfish. Slow and low. Google Millers fly shop and check out their selection.
