So if they let the lake fill to the top, how much of those trees will still be in the water? Or will they be high & dry once the water recedes?

Thanks for the pics southtexascracker. Notice this morning Lake Mathis is about 3-4 ft from being full, and there is still alot of water between Tilden and Three Rivers heading down the Nueces.

There will be about 5 more feet of water on those trees when the lake is full.

The water is right at the bottom of the platform.

Yeeaah Baby! Time to start getting ready. I'm really stoked at the chance for a good run this year. Hope the water levels will hold.

Looking foreward to seeing some of you fellas again this year.
Keep the reports flowing.

Five feet is a lot of water still, and if it's slowed we still need rains to keep it up.
Just hoping it holds enough to allow fishing this spring. There was still a lot of fish left in the lake, and they will still swim upstream to spawn.

Any idea who, if any, exploration companies are pulling from Mathis? Or how many barrels they are permitted to pull?

Most water sources for fracking comes from either earthen pit on landowner or adjacent landowner properties or water wells drilled on location. Transferring water is very costly, and it only goes up when trucking is involved.

Have only fished airport launch once in early spring 2012. Was not really good considering the river was really low. I am very anxious to fish it now that it is almost back to normal levels! Any idea on how the crappie fishing will be in that area if any? Love the white bass action but you can't beat that tasty crappie!!! Imo of course.

Like you said, transferring water is costly, so just figuring that the Nueces runs through pretty much the heart of the oil producing zone, it would just be easy to pump it straight out of the river rather than drilling wells or trucking it in. Even the drilling of wells is going to suck dry any springs that may have flowed in the past you would think.
