The way I understand it, you are allowed, in your possession, 50 crappie.

If you are talking about legal limits, there aren't any. Fish at your home does not count against your daily quota.
But you can not catch your limit, take them home and then return to catch another limit. If you get caught doing this you will be ticketed for all the fish caught on the second trip that day.
I saw a show on T.V. where two fishermen were filmed by game wardens doing this. They were ticketed for all the fish they caught on the second trip that day.
Now I understand it is unlikely you would be caught doing this. In this case somebody complained to the game wardens that these two men were doing this. So the game wardens were waiting for them and filmed them doing this.

The way I understand it, you are allowed, in your possession, 50 crappie. This is only while you are at the lake. If you are camping and fishing you are only allowed a two day limit while camping at the lake. But once you take the fish home you do not have a limit as to the amount of fish you can store in your freezer. added: WHOOPS! Discount what I said above. It appears this may have changed since I was told this by a game warden. I did some research on this question, on the Texas website. This is all I could find: What does "possession limit" for fish mean?
It is the maximum amount of fish (2-day limit) that one person can have in their possession while not in the act of fishing. So this would seem to mean you can only have 50 fish in your freezer. If you have 50 fish in your freezer it appears you would not be able to keep any fish you caught from that point on. I will clarify this the next time I see one of the game wardens at Joe Pool.

Hey Lane possession I understand, it's the freezer part .. jiggin el, I was told in 1986 by a game warden at Possum Kingdom Lake that you could only have a two day's limit in your possession while camping, that there were no limits on what you could have in your freezer at home. But I was unable to find this anywhere on the Texas web site. All I could find was the two day limit in your possession. So until I clarify this with a game warden I am going to assume I can only have 50 crappie in my freezer and that I can not keep more until I eat some of those in the freezer. Frankly this does not make sense as it does not seem enforceable. But I don't take chances where the law is concerned. I don't want to lose my fishing privileges for something as minor as this.

Can't wait to hear the game warden answer. I guess we might need to have a fish fry.

Let me add to my statement.
I believe it is a 2 day limit, per person in residence. So, 4 folks = 200. But I could be wrong.

Possesion limit does NOT apply to your residence. Possesion limit is designed for two day fisherman.
