Hello!

I moved from Minnesota about two years ago and am still learning that TX fishing is a bit different than MN fishing. This year has been rough, but I'm hanging in there and hoping that the cooler weather will bring a change of luck. At least I'm still fishing while my brothers up north have put away the bass gear and prepping for ice fishing. smile

Welcome to the forum, and to Texas! Fishing in Texas is a lot different than up north. Especially in the summer.

Welcome.

What kind of fishing are you doing? Catfishing should be getting better from the bank, Crappie will hit the creeks (if it rains) and the sandies will follow in the spring.

I just bass fish, but I should get a cheap combo for carp/catfish. As long as there's a fight, I'm game.

So which bodies of water do I NOT want to eat fish from? I was at the canals near Vista Ridge Mall up in Lewisville and it was pretty disgusting with all the garbage in the water. I don't keep bass anyway, but wouldn't mind catfish or crappies.

Welcome to Texas and the forum! Glad to know ou got here as soon as you could grin Bass fishing on the Trinity is actually really underrated IMO. I'm a catch and release guy, and I wouldn't really eat anything out of the local bodies of water around here (just another personal opinion!), but I guess anything is alright in moderation?

Again, welcome to texas! texas

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you've google mapped where you live. North Lake, unfortunately has been off limits for about 15 years. All the other bodies of water in Valley Ranch are fair game (as far as I know) Try starting out at Lakeview Park and the Valley Ranch canals. If you walk or bike along the Campion Trails, you can get to the Elm Fork and the water at Sam Houston Trail Park. There's quite a bit of construction in that area right now, don't know how it's effected the fishing.

I work near Bachman Lake and have never seen anybody catch anything there. Where do I even fish for bass at that lake? I've tried the shores closest to Luv Field, but have yet to get a single bite. I've also walked along the creek feeding it in back of Whataburger and haven't gotten anything either. Any tips?

And here's my catch this past weekend. Caught it on a buzz frog over a patch of weeds. The old Chinese guy fishing next to me cried when I threw it back in. :P

I haven't fished Bachman as much as I would like, but it seems that small ball is the way to go. Small cranks, spinners [rooster tails too]. It seems the big fish hang by the dam and rec. center on the north side, though I had a buddy catch a 4.5lb under the antenna stand in the flight line. From other post it looks like the fry are close to the bank and biting, so you may have to try some mid-sized to see if you can get past the small bites.
