It's been a while since I have posted a report. I didn't do much fishing this past summer. The heat was too much for me.
Jim, Jan (his wife) and I hit GFP on Saturday. The plan was to rendezvous at 6am. I got there at 6:30 and Jan and Jim arrived at 7:30. The water was sandy green with about 3" of clarity. The surf was 2' and a few swells were breaking on the 3rd sandbar in the morning. Later in the day the breakers were all at the 2nd sandbar. Wind was SE around 10 with a few gusts. It was the best water I have seen in a while. It was a beautiful day with a few clouds. It was cool in the morning but warm by late morning.
Jim and Jan did most of the catching the ended up in the cooler. I added one barely keeper croaker. I fished a sabiki rig for a few hours and caught bait fish and a lot of spadefish (nickname angelfish). A few were big enough to keep but I wont eat a fish with angel in the name. I would have a week of flat tires if I did.
I always chat with people on the pier. A lot of the regulars were there. Darryl and Kim were both fishing. I met 2 guys from England. They told me how they canal fish and use 16 meter rods. That is almost 50' long! ! ! ! He told me they are in sections and they keep adding sections to get out as far as they want. He said the tip does not twitch like we fish but has an elastic end to it. It sounds like fun. I told him that is a Texas sized cane pole he fishes.

Jan caught the biggest fish, a 13" croaker. Jim caught a pair of 12" croakers. Jan caught a nice sand trout. They added 2 whiting and 3 more croakers to the cooler. We all caught smaller fish and some big hardheads.

Jim caught this almost MONSTER SIZE pompano. We were all glad to see a few small ones around the pier. That means the big ones will show up soon.
For those of you who don't know Jim was diagnosed with esophagial cancer a few weeks ago. He begins chemo today and has a great prognosis. Send him a lot of good wishes and keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Send all complaints about the pics being too small to Jim. He was our official trip photographer.
