Well boys and girls, looks like my baby is about to turn into a daily driver. Litte bit about her, she is a 2008 4WD with a 7" BDS lift and 20" Moto Metal wheels with custom painted inserts wrapped in 35" Nittos. And she also has a Magnaflow muffler with custom dual outs that gives the truck a really nice rumble but I'm looking to go back to stock on that as well, although I may just go with a quieter muffler and keep the duals. In any case, over the years I wanted to build out a truck that looked good but simple and tasteful, and I feel like I've reached my goal. I was tempted to keep her the way she is and get a beater to drive but I really dont want to have another insurance payment, and maintenance to worry about. And keeping her the way she is and driving her daily is not an option as my mileage and wear / tear would be a bit much on a 70 mile daily round trip commute. So...reason for my post. Has anyone taken a lift off their truck and done a back to stock conversion? Besides stock wheels and tires, are there any other parts I have to worry about? And is there any mods that would have been done to the frame that would prevent me from going back to a stock conversion? I'm sorry if I sound ignorant on this but when I had the lift kit installed I was just too excited to think of going back to stock, and didnt think to ask about any of this. And here are some pictures of her basking in the glory of a Texas sunset.

I think you missed the good, tasteful, and simple, but that's why its yours and not mine.
Personally I would sell it and get something else. How long did it take you to find out lifted street queens are useless and expensive?

I guess taste is all subjective, and we are all entitled to our opinions. I wouldn't say she is useless. She has pulled my boat carried loads, and gone where other trucks (including Chevy's) couldn't, adn my sons and I have made a lot of memories with this truck.
I would just say that for what I need at this point in my life, it is just impractical.

Red has a point though. No so much to the tasteful part, to each his own in your case. It might be worth more to look at selling it outright as there is some individual with daddy's money burning a hole in his pocket or someone that is just looking for this exact kind of setup either way whatever. Then take that and get another one, 4wd if you need it, unaltered. Doing major modifications taking it out of the factory setup and then back sometimes don't go to well unless you save every part that was changed originally. Just a thought.

Ya haven't changed that much..........jmo It is the lift that is eating the gas along with the tire size. Unsprung weight is the issue. Street tires in the same size will weigh less but probably not that much. Like others said I would try selling it before I took all that suff off. Second would be to take the stuff off and have a garage sale.

Thanks TLW and Stump. Quiet muff's were an option, but as Stump said the mileage would still suffer.
Talked to the wife and it looks like I'm going to hold on to it and just pay cash and get a cheap commuter car. We both agree....this is my first truck that I bought and now outright own blue title and all, and it would be a shame to just get rid of it now especially with all the memories I've made with my boys taking them fishing.

Nice truck. I've got a similar truck and bought a small car to commute to work and back.

Hey I've seriously thought about doing this. Especially driving from Garland to Irving to work everyday. Get on 635 and bump around with the rest of them instead of paying to sit in a parkinglot on the Bush.

Lets do some math.
Say you drive 70 miles per day X 5 plus a few honey doo's lets round it up to 400 miles per week.
If you can get 17 mpg on your Toy you are going to use around (400/17) 23.5 gallons of gasoline. If you can get a little throw away that gets 35 mpg and do the same run you will need 11.4 gallons.
23.5 - 11.4 = 12.1 gallons of fuel saved per week X 48 weeks = 580 gallons X 3 bucks and you can save (or will spend) 1740. Thats the difference per year given the model.
I just sold our Jetta to a friend who has been driving a 16 mpg Ford for the last 10 years. She now gets mid 40's mpg and will pay for the car in about 3 years. She is pretty happy with it.

When diesel went to $4.50 a few years back, I bought a used Corolla for my daily 90 miles. Dropped the collision coverage when I paid it off. Never regretted it once. Still have my '05 Dodge and its in great shape.
