Coming from Minnesota, where the bass fishing is more about cover than structure, I have a hard time trying to catch any bass down here in Texas. It doesn't help that I'm a shore fisherman too, so I'm even more limited in where I can go. I see tree stumps or rocky cliffs and am completely lost as what to throw, most of the time going to my default of a senko with a size 2 wide gap hook and end up skunked.
I've been here about a year and a half and have fished the local DFW lakes, such as White Rock, Lewisville, and Ray Hubbard, as well as some local ponds. I usually fish at dawn or a few hours before sunset and I just can't seem to catch anything. When I do, it's about a week apart and the catch is 1-2lbers. Is my line too big? Are my lures just not working down here? Any help for a Midwest transplant is welcome. Thanks!
VAGUE LIST OF GEAR LURES: senkos, buzz frogs, Spro frogs, swimbaits, rattletrap and spinner baits. LINE: 10-12lb braided Power Pro red/green

if you are bank fishing go to docks/marinas and toss the rattletrap and spinners. stumps and rocks spinner and senko's (try triggin senkos). get some bigger hooks too, 4/0 or 5/0 and some 7-10" blue/black or blue fleck worms, worms and bank fishing can work really good. try to parallel the bank as much as possible while not fising too shallow. straight out and back may catch some but bass are watchin the bank from deeper water, they will run up and get a meal if they see one.

Join a Bass Club and pair up with the oldest guy in the club if he will take you on as a fishing buddy. The knowledge and learned skill/techniques will be old school; but most of the old guys have eaten more fish than many of the younger generation will ever catch.

Welcome to the Lone Star State! A lot of bass are caught on reaction bites (fast retrieves, crank baits) this is how I fished when I was younger. It wasn't until I started to Texas and Carolina rig did I start to catch fish regularly. And what has really helped is fishing in the dark. Work during the day so if I wanted to fish during the week I had to learn to fish in the dark. Takes a lot of patience and very slow retrieves. Good luck and get in all the practice you can.

Took you long enough to get here ... lol. Welcome to Texas!
Fish the stumps, grass and main lake points. If you don't catch a bass, add a lure to your line. That should do it.

Find one close to your area and contact them to join.

Here's your solution- you ain't spending enough money. I know, you didn't say how much you've spent on fishing. Doesn't matter. Whatever it is, it ain't enough. And even that's not guaranteed.
Welcome to Texas and the Forum!

Good thing about being a fisherman in Texas is that it is easy to find someone willing to lend you a back seat. You may have to sign a confidentiality agreement with some .
Nothing will beat time spent on the water grab a tube, kayak whatever and get out there once you put your time in you'll figure em out.

If money is limited try a bass buster or a kayak. There are tons of small waters all over north Texas that are stacked, packed and racked full of fish. When my son isn't fishing on the boat with me he is at it in the kayak or his bass buster. He wears them out. Check the ponds in Carrollton, Lewisville and Las Colinas. The canals over there are LOADED with toads. When I worked over there I would fish those on my lunch hour and get my arm ripped out of socket. Texas rig creature baits, jigs, spinnerbaits, wacky rigged Senko on a Flick Shake jig head and small cranks will get you jammed. Summer time a frog or buzzbait will get some good bites early and late. Also check the neighborhood ponds too. Many of those have gems from local lakes in them.
