What'e the dumbest thing that you have seen someone do while fishing?

or, what is the dumbest thing YOU will admit to doing while out fishing?

while preparing to do an offshore plant restoration project in the back bay I saw our guy loose control of his boat that was on the bank and the wind blew it out.

it was very funny to us, but then we realized we needed the boat to transport beach grass out to the island so

about three of us cast a heavy dipsey onto the deck using our surf rods and managed to reel it back in

but it was funny

Always keep my cell in my box while fishing so I don't fall in with it. Took it out of the box to make a call and fell in. Only time in 40 years I've ever fallen out of a boat.

I am the only guy that can fall out of the boat while sitting down. While sitting on the front sit down chair, I had to scoot forward to reach the trolling motor handle to turn it down a notch.

The boat hit a stump on RR.. and out I went. First my knee wend down on the reels to the side of me then my butt landed on them and I did a perfict back flip out of the boat.

I had to send 3 reels to the shop with bent handles and two with bent shafts. It was a very costly mistake but very funny to my partner. It would have been a great time to have a GoPro running.

Watched a buddy do the "bill dance trolling motor blooper" on his jon boat one day. Turned it to the right and hit high to dodge a stump and it disconnected from the bow. It's absolutely hilarious watching someone try to hold on to a loose trolling motor at 56lbs of thrust

ealier this year I was pitching and end of day tired I pitched jig AND the rod/reel together. Pretty accurate too as I hit the stump. I was able to grab the line, but since spool was open I had a bunch of line to retrieve before I got the rod/reel up. shocked

all on video too, I'm saving my blooper videos for a greatest hits.

About eight years ago, someone I know wink was driving out to White Rock at 5:00am down unlit Garland Road in the right hand lane. Slowing down just before the downhill bit before you take a right on E. Lawthner. Just as he crested the hill, bump, bump, bump, bump draaaaggggg draaaagggg creeeeaaak. They had set up some small orange cones for a 10K/20K running race that day in the right hand lane starting just past the Arboretum. Plastic undercarriage shield torn and ripped hanging on by a bolt or two.

I was fishing Travis with a couple friends and we were slabbing in deep water. My friend was on the phone with his wife and trying to slab at the same time. Meanwhile the other friend is in the back of the boat spending 30 minutes tying on a roadrunner (don't ask my why someone would tie on a roadrunner to fish 40' of water). So he finally gets it tied on and drops it in the water. My friend on the phone hooks it, pulls it up and, never taking his eyes from it or breaking his conversation with his wife, sees the road runner, pulls out his cutters and cuts the line, and tosses the roadrunner in the lake. The friend in back says "what was that you just threw in the lake?" "jig".. "was it white?" "yeah". "THAT WAS MINE! I just spent 30 minutes tying that stupid thing on and you cut if off?" "Well.. don't throw roadrunners".

We still laugh about it.

Last year I was giving my fishing partner a hard time about the fish he lost earlier that day. As the day went on he pulled to a spot he like to fish. I was fishing in the back of the boat, he had a hard time keeping us in one spot due to the high winds. He said im just going to move back to where we started from. So he crank up the motor and hit the gas. Which threw me from the boat. Morale of the story is, don't give you partner a hard time if you in his boat. I'll get him back one day....

Was fishing with a guy on BP in March a few years back. He set the hook and stepped back when he did he stepped into the splash well and out he went. Never dropped the rod, it was quite an experience getting a guy over 200 soaking wet, boots, jacket back in the boat. Got him in and he landed the fish. Of course it was a slot but it was funny to see him come up with his hand still on the reel handle.

This is not dumb, but it fits the O.P's title. I'm not going to say who but back in the early 90's me and someone else was fishing Fork. We had ran all the way back in the Glade and was around the islands. You could not get to the islands. This person told me they had to relieve themself. They mentioned this several times within about an hour. Finally he said you can keep fishing or watch but I gotto go. He dropped his drawers and hung onto the trolling motor. As I continued to fish, all I could here was Bloop, Bloop, I was laughing my arse off. I said "If you fall in I'm not jumping in to save you" Good times.

launched my new to me champion for the first time, went up parked the truck, come back to a fountain shooting out the back. forgot the drain plug and had to load it to put it in (was way too dam cold to go wading).

fishing a championship at texoma a couple of yrs ago, got out my favorite crank bait box, loaded with about 200.00 or so of my high end baits, tied one on, got distracted, drove off with it on the back deck, not there when I got to launch and remembered it.
this was up on 70 at the motel just west of catfish bay and we launched across the bridge so no chance of finding it.

I was on bob sandlin with the boys casting slabs for sandies . There were about five boats in the area with us. The boat next to us had a new fisherman in it and his partner was trying to help him catch some fish. The bait caster wasn't working out for the new guy so his buddy tied the slab on a spinning real with light line we heard they man say to the other because it was light line and if he wasn't carefull it would go far enough to hit a boat across the way.
Well about the third cast the ole boy rared back and let it fly and all you hear is a pop. The lure had broke off and went flying. A couple of seconds later you hear a scream from the boat about 90yds across from us. The slab had come down and hit a man in the top of his head. He turned around screaming and cussing and immediately every one in our area pointed at the new guy. He was beet read from embarrassment . His partner fired the boat up and left. Know I know it had to of hurt and was probably not funny to the man that got hit at all. But you could tell that it was everything everyone could do to not laugh.
