Welcome to the Guadalupe River Chapter! We're glad to have you. Next meeting is this coming Saturday in Sattler. Our speaker is Kirk Deeter, editor of Trout magazine and author of the Little Red Book of Fly Fishing. Check the website ( www.grtu.org) for details.

I recently re-joined TU after a 2 year hiatus. I'm looking forward to the meeting on 10/26. The river is close to S.A. it would be a shame not to take advantage.

I grew up on the river and went to high school there but after the flood of 2002 I lost interest. that was really a shame cause I missed out on a lot of good years I could have enjoyed the river.
Looking to get into some serious trout fishing this fall

I was a TU member for 10 years or more and have many fond memories, especially the earlier days in the old crowded facility with many of the founding members. Those guys were the best a wine selection, wives activities, and lots of laughter. One sunny day in 2004 or 2005, I waded into an area, I think called 6A, near Rio Raft. There were three TU members below the weir whooping and hollering. There was a little pocket below the weir that held fish. I hear one guy yell thats 65. Another soon yelled thats 68 for me. The pocket held maybe 15 or 25 newly stocked fish. They were catching the same dumb fish over and over. I drove home and have not been back since.
TU has an orientation plan, but it can't anticipate things like that.

GRTU has posted on its website a "Refresher on Stream Etiquette" that deals with that very issue. We also try, whenever possible, to disperse fish after they are stocked so they don't pod up like that. Unfortunately, in low flow situations like we've had the past few years, it's hard to disperse them too much, so we try to encourage the fishermen to exercise a little restraint and move out of a honey hole to give others a chance.

Well ... maybe the new proposed regulations in the public area near the dam will have some kind of positive effect (if adopted)?

can't see how that is TU's fault

Thank you for joining GRTU. By joining our chapter you are supporting a wide range of conservation activities. We have partnered with TPWD on many scientific surveys and studies over the years, sponsor TPWD interns, restoration and river enhancement programs, and even the funding of other TU Chapters own restoration projects. Your donations support just not the stocking of Rainbows in the Guadalupe River, but also a number of charitable activities also: Casting for Recovery, Wounded Warriors, TroutFest and others. GRTU is all this and more. Mostly we are a bunch of Trout fishing enthusiasts that enjoy fishing close to home on a regular basis. We have been working since 1968 to make the Guadalupe River the best Trout Fishery it can be. Come on down and see for yourself. If you like what you see join us, we are a likable bunch of guys and gals.
