This has been my nemesis for years but not anymore. First of all I hate fishing with spinning reels but I also do fish for crappie so it is a necessary evil. Lay the line down to where it comes off counter clockwise and slowly reel it on. If you put on too much line or too heavy line it will spring off. Once you have the line on there take your spool off and soak it in hot water for a few minutes and let it dry. Since I started doing this no more line twist or jumping off the reel. YMMV also look here for more info http://www.youtube.com/results?search_qu...ube.y4RhZ0ayh9g

I had no idea that that could even happen! Looks like I wasted a spool of line... Drag the line behind the boat to remove twisting.

I had no idea that that could even happen! Looks like I wasted a spool of line... It is only wasted if you strip it off and throw it out... If you have another reel that needs line, you can string it directly from one spool to another without messing it up at all... Just open the bail on your spinning reel, and attach the end of the line to the reel that you are swapping it onto... then reel it off of one reel and onto the other... But this time be sure you don't spool it backwards, be sure that it is the proper diameter for your reel, and be sure that you do not spool too much line on! No need to trash it though! especially when you spend good money on some more expensive line like flouro

I have used mono (actually P-line CX Premium which is a copolymer with an outer coating of fluorocarbon) for years with almost no issues. Leave at least 1/8 inch below the lip of the spool and spray with KVD line/lure conditioner the night before you go. I don't like fooling with braid and leaders.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I spool my line on my shimano sedona like you would a baitcaster and it works fine but I be sure not to overload and the reel has that bearing in the bail that spins it has a certain name but can't remember what its called.

On your next trip to the lake take the lure off of your rod andet the line spool off of the reel like you are trolling. Let all of the line off. It wil put some bend in your rod from the friction of the water on your line. This is a good thing because with no lure your line can spin in the water and remove any twist that it has. Keep "trolling" as you reel the line back in. It will put enough stretch and tension on your line to keep it tight against the spool. If it still springs off at the end of a cast then the line is too large for the reel.
Good luck!

Yes, I got educated right here (on proper direction for spooling the line onto the reel). But, it did not make enough difference to satisfy me. What works for me is using braided line, and adding a flouro leader via a Alberto-Special knot.

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

Mono or braid for my spinning rod. I had the same problems with floro just jumping off the spool when you open the bail. Wound right, good line...didn't matter. Floro & spinning reels don't mix...IMO.

That's why it just "jumps off" because the line is trying to lay "straight".
