You can get severely injured while working.Ten days ago I was loosening my positive cable from the terminal with open ended wrench in left hand. It slipped enough for my wedding band to hit the negative. My ring welded to it enough to melt the terminal and leave lead on my finger and the ring. It burned the ring nearly in half. The burn went all the way around my finger and fried the skin. It has now lost almost all the skin leaving a crater and has been a bloody oozing mess. Doctor said this could result in loosing the finger because it disrupts the blood supply to the finger.

So take off those rings!

I have not worn a ring in 20 years as an aircraft mechanic for this very reason.

Yep for years I never wore my wedding ring and always a rubber watch. Working on high voltage panels in machine starters and control panels. First wife never understood why and was married to second wife 20 years she understood but finally insisted since I had become supervisor and rarely worked around it as "I have people" now to do that. Anymore if I'm working on a vehicle or around the house I take both watch and ring off for fear of messing them up would bother the wife more than getting hurt. Yes be mindfull I've seen people hurt just as bad whether it was 12 vold dc or 480 volt ac never take it for granted.

Excellent suggestion. Rings can also hang on something and rip a finger off, doesn't have to be just electricity that messes you up. We learned that from jumping out of trucks in the army.

I have been an electrician for over 30 years. The most dangerous thing ever created is the wedding ring except the one found in a cracker jack box. I will not wear one been married 32 years to the same woman. It,s my finger my life not hers. No offence to the 600v and under guys here higher voltages like 4160 will jump to that ring the higher you go the farther it will jump. Snag dangers are everywhere with a ring. Lots of people have lost fingers due to the ring and the perceived safe 12 volt car battery at 300 cca gold silver platinum melt quickly along with your finger. 300 cca is a small car battery. Just think what your boat battery will do to you.

I've never worn my wedding ring because I work with my hands, and have been building these for the last six years.

When I was in the army, a guy came into the ER with his ring finger in his hand and it had his wedding band on it. He was jumping out of the back of a duce and a half and caught that finger and ripped it off.

I never wore mine when I was running a press and I had a helper who insisted on wearing his. Well one day he got it caught in the gripper bars and didn't have to worry about wearing it any more on that finger.
