I am new to fishing the Gudalupe in the New Braunfels area. Need to know where to fish, when to fish, what to fish with. I've tried but had little to no luck, and I do not have a boat, so need to bank or wade fish.Any suggestions or ideas would help me a lot.

To the Texas Fishing Forum. Glad to have you on board. The Guadalupe River is a super river to fish. I usually fish for the Sunfish. I have also caught my share of Cats and Bass. Fishing is usually good all year around. Sunfish fishing is the simplest. Get you a light combo set (Rod/reel). Acadamey has the Shakespeare combos for around $15.00. Size 6 hooks, and size 5 sinkers along with a float or a slip float and you are good to go. Good luck and keep us posted on how you do. Side Note: Cypress Bend Park off of Commons is a good place to fish.

Welcome to the board Heef!!! Good to have you on board!! As BAF said, no way you can go wrong with buying an ultra-light combo. In New Brauny, you have the Guadalupe and Comal. Both rivers have some good fish and should be pretty easy to catch.

To the TFF! You have picked a super section to post on. These Anglers can and will offer a lot of very good advice on just about everything you need to know about fishing. Also plus #1 on both Bankers and Dhogdogs postings. I would add to use live worms. They seem to work the best!

To the Texas Fishing Forum. Keep fishing simple and fun. This is the first year I have actually fished for Sunfish. The only regret I have is I did not start fishing for em sooner.

I usually go to a bank fishing spot under the Faust St. bridge. You can access the river from either side, but I find that it's easier to park and enter on the road coming in from the feeder next to Ryan's. You can cross the bridge and get right up next to the dam, which offers some good fishing if the water level is right. The other side next to the mill is owned by a private company and they do not like people tresspassing over there...I've seen the police on the scene a number of times. Best of luck and I'll see you out there this summer!

Guadalupe implies a bunch of things. The east, south side of Lake Dunlap (part of Guadalupe) has about 6 or 7 spots that you can cast from. You can also fish just south of the spillway. You can find these areas just off the I35 ramp heading downstream right before the homes begin.

I have spent a lot of fishibg the Guadalope and Comal in the city of New Bruanfels. I have found best luck and activity is wade fishing below the east common street bridge with rooster tails, 2 lb test very lively 5 ft pole. a lot of success sight casting. Caught a varity of fish including a 3 pound trout on 2 lb. test. other places intown on the comal are the shoot, under garden street bridge and across from texas tubes. I have watched schools of bass swim up stream under that bridge, two feet from me, hit them on the head with a lure and got no response from them.used mostly rooster tails there as well. most one to one and half lb. bass several varieties. perch, blue gill an occassional trout in winter and early spring in these two rivers.

Thanks "heef" for the update. That is some good information to know. I usually don't fish the Garden Street bridge until after Labor Day when most of the tubers are gone.

Have you tried the Plain Mepps Spinners? #1 or #2 silver without the hair or gold if it is cloudy. I have always had better luck with them than the Rooster Tails.

I'm new to the site, but have received a lot of good info. In the past, so I joined in. I'd like to wade fish this winter for trout between #2 - #4 on the Guadalope. Does anyone know if any of those river banks are private and are you able to wade fish it from those areas without any issues, or obstacles I should be aware of?

The banks are all private but most places charge you a small fee for access. Go to www.southwestpaddler.com. Its a kayaking site but has alot of useful fishing info also. It will give access points, fees, and hazards.
