General question! Is a $200+ rod that much better than a $79 rod? I ask because a good friend whacks them with $79 rods all the time. You get what you pay for is my opinion, of course we make Trokar Jigs cheaper than any others, and they are of the highest quality. Just a opinion thread................thoughts?

Think of it like cars and trucks. Some people just want the best they can buy. In some ways they are better. But if you are just needing transportaion; if it will crank it will get your there and back.

When I first started fishing I bought everything as cheap as I could. Now I spend an average of 150-200 per rod, I believe that the sensitivity is worth it. You can catch fish on the cheap stuff but how many do you miss?

All things being equal, buy the very best you can afford.
A $300 rod will provide less weight, higher sensitivity and better componenets than a $79 rod. However, a good fisherman with a $79 rod wins over an average fisherman with a $300 rod every time.

Holy [censored] yes!!!! The jump from a 80-120$ rod to a 200-300$ rod is huge after that 300$ I really can't tell the difference. Typically under 200$ is all any tournament angler needs anything over is overkill

This is my rod. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my rod is useless. Without my rod, I am useless. I must cast my rod true. I must cast straighter than the enemy who is trying to out fish me. I must get to my spot before he does. My rod and I know that what counts in a tourney is not the lures we cast, the noise of our rattletraps, or the twitch we make. We know that it is the fish that count.

what's better than a 79 dollar rod?
try a 39 dollar Ugly Stik
I have literally caught thousands of bass on one of these on crankbaits.
And it was given to me to boot.
But I also own 4 G.Lommis, 3 St Croixs, 18 Crucials, 4 Mobys, 1 Dobyns (just bought it this year) and some other more expensive rods.
But I still fish that Ugly Stik every time I go out. Did this morning.

I rarely buy a new rod anymore, too many people on here always upgrading and offering high quality rods at great prices.

Most of my rods cost around $100. I only have a few that are above $200. I can tell you that flipping timber all day on a three day trip, there is a huge difference in which rod I'm using. You get what you pay for, for the most part. I love the weight, sensitivity and power of a high end rod. You just can't imitate it with cheap materials.
