I am going to Lake Murray in the middle of November for the first time. Is lake Murray a good lake to fish this time of year. I have read on this forum that the lake is super clear and has some dangerous rock areas. I usually fish texoma and live in the area. Is murray similar to fishing Texoma. Looking forward to my family trip. Thanks

Murray and Texoma fish different. Murray is a good winter lake most months although it may hit a spell during the coldest times of the year where its very tough. November can be really good as far as big stringers goes but it depends on water temp. usually in early November you can catch a 15lb stringer of largemouth while still catching some good numbers. late November can be not quite as good for bigger fish so tournament weights are usually lower then. The usual big stringer averages around 10lbs for 5 fish over the course of a year so on Murray a 4lber is a really good fish.

We fished Murray for the first time yesterday. Beautiful lake, very clear and very deep. Lots of rocky points and drop offs. I was really surprised at the amount of deep grass on that lake.

Thanks for the good information. I plan on going there soon and spending a whole weekend. Hopefully I can catch some smallies.

Spool up a couple of spinning rods with light line (6 or 8 pound test). Shakey head finesse worms, drop shots. I wore the smallmouth out a few times with a small jerk bait twitched fast over 25 foot of water. They looked like brown missiles coming up to hit it.

Fish the southern rocky banks, might get a bi smallie, probably would fish a shakey head

North end of the lake has lily pads and a creek. Good frog area. Check the water level though, it can be pretty shallow up that way.
Great thing about Murray is that it has it all.
Points, huge rock piles, lily pads, grass, boat docks, bluffs, islands, creeks etc.
There's also a huge area in the middle of the lake that is 3-5 ft with grass. Holds good fish. Crossing the lake you cross it and never know it's there wink

at 5' low you need to stay in the main lake if on plane and even then there are some very shallow humps to watch for.
I highly recommend using a navionics map card while running and watch for the channel.

south end with red eye shad in gizzard is a good smallie color, hula grubs worked slow on the rocky banks out to about 20' too,
watermelon red flake is a good color to start with.
jigs/craw trailer and shad cranks that will run to 10-12' as well.

north end has a lot of grass, east arm has always been better for me, square bills, jerk baits and any shad bait worked over the top.

the east side has a very long sand bar that comes out at only about 2' deep when full, should be dry now, north side of it has produced for me in the past as well as the bank going north.

Thank you for all the great info about Lake Murray. Sounds like it is a lake that has a lot to offer. Has anyone had any good or bad luck at staying at the lodge?

I've been to the lake twice, never stayed at the lodge, but have had a great stay at the brand new Holiday Inn in Ardmore by the convention center. 10 minute drive to the lake, reasonable price, and the wife approves. You can park your boat right in front and plug it in. Decent sports bar in the hotel as well.

Lots of these little guys Near Tucker Tower:

With the occasional this in the grass in the SE corner past the dam near the no wake area:

the lodge is good, cabins at the lodge are better.
lodge is not set up for plugging in a boat, cabins just need an extension cord.
