Really can't beat a shimano sahara 2500 with 20lb braid. I be the hell out of them and they work great. After a few big fish....Kingfish,big jacks... I upgrade the drag to carbon fiber disks and beat it up again.

cheap spinnign reals freeze up in salt water except for some reason i have been really successful with http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/shimano-ix4000rc-spinning-reel-convertible/pid-11369?N=273169066 ive used it for 5 years and it still doesnt rust, idk why bu this reel has been dunked over and over and ovr, if ur fishing inshore u dont need alot of drag, u need castablity, the reel is simple and light, if u look at the spool the rim is curved in, idk why but this slight difference makes this reel cast farther, i spooled mine with 30 lb braid, i have 3 of them , they only run for 13 bucks each and academy will ship free if u spend 35 dollars or more

I have an older reel that Pcde123 is talking about and it lists that it is salt compatible in the instructions, I just bought a newer one and it lists it as a fresh water reel, not sure if they did anything different or not with the newer reels, just wanted to mention the fact.
They are nice reels do seem to hold up well, the newer one I have is a back up, so I can't tell you much about it.

Depending on your finances, the Shimano Stradic is a really good reel for saltwater. I've got several and they are awesome.

What price are you looking in. For the money a Lews speed spin its 49 at academy. I have one on a trout rod m action. 100 even I'd go with the speed spin inshore or the penn battle. I have both the Lews has a smooth cast and comes with a braid spool and a mono. Perfect if you want to change up while fishing.

Hey man, the Stradic is top of the line but pretty pricey. I run Okuma Trios for free lining shrimp, croaker, mullet.. And popping corks and small tandem plastics. They work great and the drag is awesome

Its sitting in about 40' of water in Florida.

For me the best spinning reel for saltwater is DAIWA SS TOURNAMENT 1300. I am fishing with this reel for over 10 years without problem

I've had my Daiwa BG15 and BG20 (black gold series) since the early 90's. They've since doubled in price nowadays tho... anyone out there that still uses them can vouch for em'... And if anyone has any laying around I'd like to take them off your hands! My brother is a shimano guy and he's had a pair of first gen Sedona's that are still going strong. Set a budget and feel some different models out... Confidence in your gear will return great fishing! Good luck!

Depending on your finances, the Shimano Stradic is a really good reel for saltwater. I've got several and they are awesome. +1 on the Stradic. But a couple words of caution. The bail arms are carbon. My high country trout pole has the Stradic 1000ML on it. I slipped on some river stone and put my hands down to break my fall. I snapped the arm in two. On the plus side, Shimano customer service sent me a replacement for free!!
Nooooooo.... (as the big one gets away again)

I'm a Penn guy, and seem to prefer them.
