Lately the unit has been powering down a low speeds with little or no rough water. Today it shut down while trolling at low speeds on water that was like glass. I have checked the power connections, no issues there, the battery if fully charged. Is this normal for a one year old unit to just stop working. Thanks Chris

So I finally found the problem I was having with my 998. Like Chris, my unit was shutting off during rough water and as time went on, it starts to power off even on calm water. I had check my voltage, my power line, switch to bladed fuse, and even ran a separate battery to it with no resolution. So I finally check all my wires and found the problem. Over time, my transducer wire had ran underneath my wood board which I stand on my center console. I had initially ran it along the wood board. When rough water hit, the board was crushing the transducer wire. Over time, it had rub the protective rubber covering off from the wire. Every time I would stand on my stand, it would crush the wire therefore causing the unit to shut off. Now that I have removed the wire from under the board, my unit has work flawlessly just as first installed. So if you guys having problem when your unit shuts off during rough water and check your power source, you might want to check your transducer wire or antenna wire making sure that its not crushing or rubbing against an edge that causing your unit to power off.

quick question… just installed my 998c HD and not sure if my transducer is 100% in the clear. Is there a way to check it without going to the lake? I did use a string from one end of the lowest part of the boat to the other and the transducer did look like it cleared it, but would like to know for sure.

Also, am I supposed to be able to see lakes on my included map? I see a map, but the lakes are showing up as regular land. ???

This is my first humminbird, not to mention first high end sonar, so everything is new to me. Thanks!

For the transducer to "see" from the water's surface to past vertical on both sides, each side of the transducer has to have a clear path to do that.

The built-in ContourXD mapping has 3,000 bodies of water with contours. There are 10's of thousands of bodies of water, lots of them get left out. There are 54 bodies of water in Texas included on the built-in mapping.

The unit can use either Lakemaster or Navionics digital mapping.

Is Humminbird PC compatible with an Apple computer. I recently switched over from a windows laptop to a Mac.

If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life,
there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

No, but you can install a parallel software to do it.
Do a web search for "PC software to Mac"

I have had a hard time keeping this item in stock. I do currently have them in stock.

You still have these power cable extensions? I need one for my HB 998.

It is one of the views in the rotation when you push the VIEW button if you didn't turn it off in the Views menu.
I have it set as one of the short-cut buttons above the power button.

try a restore to factory defaults.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Does anybody know the size of the bolts (machine screws) that fit the two connectors for external mounting in the back of the Humminbird 597ci HD DI Combo?

I am talking about the two that are in the back of the unit for external mounting of the head instead of using a quick disconnect mount.

I've searched the internet and the humminbird site but can not find a parts list for this unit.

Thanks,

Ed

There is no external mount system or provisions for one. The quick disconnect mount is the "external" mount system and has the cable collector to hold the plugs for the transducer, and power cord.
The brass threaded insert and threads in the heat sink are for flush mounting using the flush mount kit. The kit comes with the threaded studs, bracket, nuts, and a cable collector.

http://store.humminbird.com/products/322979/IDMK_700

BTW, the thread size must be metric because a 8-32 is too small and a 10-32 is too large.
I don't have any metric screws to check.
