Might check laws btw. I used to raise them from fingerling to 8" or so and study them. Then return them to a pond. I don't do it anymore. Heard it was against the law. Hell who am I kidding I'll do it again soon lol. Wait till spring and summer feed him those geekos from the porch and also heat up hot dog skin and hand feed him those and dryed krill. Probably the best fish I had ever had. Had a few bluegill and strawberry perch and they were protective of my hand while it was in the tank. Like if I'm moving a rock the other fish would get beat up and he would rub my hand like a cat lol

Its amazing when you buy feeder fish from petsmart. They will show you alot in the way they eat. They will eat 8 goldfish at one time and if one comes out of his mouth he will swim the whole tank chasing that one fish to get him back lol shows you how vicious they are when they hit our lures out in the wild. Very very fast and aggressive. Also mess with the temps of the tank and watch how he acts. He will hide and take cover or suspend over a rock. Crazy studying those guys. Good luck would love to see pics

Here is a experiment for you tank guys.
Have you ever caught a bass while fishing on the first cast? My theory is the bait has a HEAT SIGNATURE laying on the deck of the boat in the sun and is hot. Of course this goes away after the first cast then you never get another bite.
The Bass's Lateral Line has the ability to seek pray with a different body temp. than its own. They are cold blooded just like a rattle snake and seek pray much the same way.
EXPERIMENT: Take a small group of bait fish. Enclose them in the tank so they cannot be eaten until their body temp. is the same as the water. Take one of the bait fish and raise its body temp. 5 degrees over the temp. of the tank. Now release all of the bait and see which bait fish they take first. Mark the tale of the one HOT bait fish with a marker so you can keep up with it.
The results will alway be, that the HOT bait fish will be eaten first. Many large tanks have an established echo system with bait that live in there with the Bass and are not eaten unless one gets sick or starts acting funny. You can do the same experiment with one of the resident fish, craw fish, or salamanders and the result will be the same. The HOT pray will be eaten immediately.
Get your hot capsules to make any jig or soft plastic bait hot today. Just give me a shout.

First off who cares if it's against the law last time I checked TPWD will not kick in ur door to prosecute someone for keeping undersized bass as pets. I used to have a bunch would catch them at cast net in local pond a keep me for couple weeks and watch them. Really cool I'm trying to get a large tank to support a 1-3lb bass to study for short periods of time. Really curious how each bass differs from another.
