I use a similiar set up, 8+ Gloomis, 20 lb braid, 30 lb leader, on shimano 2500 spinning reel.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

If you don't wanna use a poppin cork, use a spinning rod OR rig the VuDu on a Carolina rig. Honestly though you'd be better off throwing something like a shimano curado, citica, chronarch or a 50$ h2o mettle. Because you can back the brake off by taking down the left side plate and disengage them. I throw plastics with a 1/16 oz jig head sometimes and still throw it 35-45 yards easily. With a 6'9 Falcon Coastal. 6'6 all star M should do just fine. If you're lookin for a good spinning reel at a moderate cost, okuma trios are really good reels and run you a about a bill. I have 2 set up on falcon HD's in M action and I really like those setups and I'm a casting guy..
