I started this post as I live in west Texas and our lakes are really low. I started looking for better fishing by going on a trip fishing Lake Murray, McGee Creek, then Lake Sardis. It was only at Sardis that we caught them good enough to want to go back. That was my first time on any of those lakes and for me two were lousy but Sardis was good. But if Ray Roberts would just produce a few fish if you work hard, then I'd save 2 hours driving each way.
I was fortunate enough to have Conroe as my home lake back when it was full of fish and hydrilla and Ricky Clunn was guiding there. And I heard stories of Livingston, Rayburn and Toledo when the flooded trees were still green. All these lakes had a peak time...sounds like some of you enjoyed Ray Roberts at it's peak. We all regret that our lakes don't stay hot.
But I don't have unrealistic expectations. And it sounds like RR is worth a half day's effort from me. It's interesting to see how some of you really support your lakes. Thanks for your time.

I doubt lake Ray roberts will even be around in year 20000!

I started fishing it when it was opened, and I have fished it a minimum of 25 times per year. When it first opened I fished it every weekend for the first 2 or 3 years. I scheduled my vacations around it's peak times. Thru the years I have been more and more disappointed with the lake as a bass fishery, but I will say this. If I had my choice to go fish Fork or RR tomorrow, I would choose RR. My dad has a trailer and lot on fork but when I go down there there is the most rude people. Ya'll can have it. Now if I had my choice to go to Athens or RR, I would go to Athens in a heart beat. I still fish RR 30 times a year, but at least 20 of those are for Crappie. Like most people on here will tell you it's about timeing on that lake. When it's on you definatlely want to be there. I've fished it with Walling, Lindy, and a few others. They are all gone now. I was with Walling when he decided to call it quits. It was a rough day. I live 5 miles from Eagle Mountain, but I will drive to Ray Roberts before I go there. Rudy Lacky and the guys up there get mad at us when we gripe about it, but it was such a great lake at one time. I blame it all on TPW&D. They experimented with size limits, and bad to none stocking practices and it failed. Failed compared to Fork, Toledo Bend, Rayburn - but I think it fits right close in behind those places. I love the fact that when I'm out there on most Saturday's at 3:00 pm, you can look around and not see another boat, dock, or jet ski, ski boat or any other person up north of Wolf Island. Parks and Wildlife has admitted their wrong doings and lifted the funky slot and started stocking the lake again with bass. In the mean time I'm fillin up my freezer with Crappie Slabs.

This says it all as far as howthe lake has been managed. Ask any who have personally met the guy and he is the biggest Jack A you will meet at a lake.
