www.kjas.com As the federal government shutdown continues, federally maintained parks at Lake Sam Rayburn are also affected.
Last week, local fishing guide and KJAS radio host Roger Bacon scouted all local parks and boat ramps, and he provided a list of what he has discovered to be open, and what is closed. On Wednesday, Terry Sympson, of Jackson Hill Marina, contacted KJAS News and provided information on a few privately owned marinas and boat ramps which are open on the north end of the lake.
According to Bacon and Sympson, the following locations are OPEN:
~ Five Fingers Boat Ramp
~ Powell Park Marina & Boat Ramp
~ Harvey Creek Boat Ramp
~ Lakewood Subdivision Boat Ramp
~ Jackson Hill
~ Cassell-Boykin
~ Shirley Creek
According to Bacon and Sympson, the following locations are CLOSED:
~ Mill Creek Park & Boat Ramp
~ Caney Creek campgrounds & Boat Ramp
~ Rayburn Park & Boat Ramp
~ Twin Dykes Park & Boat Ramp
~ San Augustine Park & Boat Ramp
~ All Corps of Engineers maintained boat ramps
According to Bacon, the following locations are accessible ON A LIMITED BASIS:
~ Public Boat Ramp
~ Umphrey Family Pavilion & Boat Ramp
Meanwhile, Texas Parks & Wildlife officials say that although the federal parks have closed, all local state parks, including Martin Dies, Jr. State Park at Dam B and Village Creek Park in Hardin County, remain open and are not affected because they belong to the State of Texas.
