Dad and I took a trip to Toledo Bend October 7-11 and almost lost count of how many bass we caught. We stayed at Holly Park and caught 15 Monday evening in Corsey Creek off Patroon. Tuesday Morning we made the run down to Spring Hill Bay/Six Fingers and caught a dozen or so in the creeks and cuts on the south shore. Went over to the Louisiana side Tuesday evening and caught about six up in La Nana then moved back over to Corsey and caught another ten or so for a Tuesday total of 28. Wednesday Morning we went back down to Spring Hill and didn't do quite as well as the morning before only landing about 5 and we started noticing a bit of turnover scum the farther south we went. That evening we stayed in Patroon again and caught about 20 in Corsey again for a Wednesday total of 25. Thursday morning we took a longer ride south down to Lowes and didn't do too well down there only caught about 8 that morning. At this point we realized our best fishing was right there close to where we were staying and fished in Patroon the rest of the trip. Thursday evening we went back into Corsey and the creek between Corsey and Mason (Cypress Bay???) where we caught about 25 for a Thursday total of 33. Friday we had their number and stayed in that creek between Corsey and Mason all day and slayed them good! Caught 66 fish total on Friday!.

Most of the fish were between 2-3 lbs with the biggest going 5.5. Even had a few spots mixed in there. Fish were fat and feeding heavily on shad. Used our electronics to locate schools of feeding bass in 10-15 ft depths. This was a good time to utilize electronics to find bait, structure and then the bass. The lake had lots of Hydrilla out to 10 feet. They were congregated along weed lines and in little cuts wherever they could push up baitfish. Got into some surface schooling over the creek channels in more open water as well. We were also able to pick some up off the timber out away from the weed lines between there and the main creek channels.

The best baits were shad pattern mid diving cranks (5X and Norman DD14) and square bills. Best colors were Chart/Black and Black Splatter. Also caught a lot on the timber on LFT Worms and Shaky Head Finesse worms in Green Pumpkin with the tails spiked in Chartreuse garlic scent. Those Baits accounted for probably 85% of our fish with the others coming on a variety of spinnerbaits, buzzbaits. and rattlebaits. All in all this was one of the best fishing trips I have ever had, accommodations were great, weather was perfect, lake was in great shape and the fish were biting.

Total count for the week was 166 bass! Not too bad if you ask me.

Here are a couple pics of the biggest of the trip.

And here is what a mess of bass eating shad looks like on the electronics.

Lots of Bald Eagles down there too!

Man, I really needed that report because I am going down there Wednesday morning about 11am. and stay until Sunday. I have stayed at Holly Park many of times and it has always been good fishing there. I am familiar with Patroon creek, but I don't remember where those creeks are by name. Leaving Holly Park heading to the main lake.....? Can you email me and give me a little more info? j.duckhawkins@yahoo.com.

Glad you and your Dad had a Blast! Mines past away in 89'. He would have love that trip. Thanks for sharing. Duck

Correct. That's Corsey. Where we caught the most fish is the creek before that.

It seemed like the farther south we went, the worse the fishing was. We only made it as far south as Lowes and it was dead down there. Lots of turnover scum on the water the farther south we went also.
