Does anyone have a link to articles explaining the recommended combinations of rod and reels for bass fishing? For example. What length and action rod/gear ratio on reel for flipping, spinner baits, top water (frog, poppers), crankbaits, etc...

Here is a pretty good article on reels
http://www.wired2fish.com/choosing-the-right-gear-ratio-reel/

And some nice articles on rods
http://www.bassresource.com/beginner/bass_fishing_rods.html
http://www.bassresource.com/hank-parker-fishing/rod.html
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/guides/rodselection.html

Now you will find that a lot of this is just personal preferences
Mine run the gamut from a 6' Hvy with a 7.1-1 reel for flipping tight areas (boat houses and stalls) to 8' med with a 4.7-1 reels for the large CB's (XD10's), and pretty much several 6'6" med hvy with 6.4-1 reels for the other applications
