I have been really tempted to put in somewhere below the dam and fish. I have a tandem, 14 foot Ocean Kayak that I rig for a single seat. I have fished BTB and bay and plenty of lake, but never tried the Red River. Anyone put in down there on the Texas side? What are the licensing requirements? Texas and OK? I'm thinking striper and catfishing. Thanks!

OK license is required to fish in the river. You can fish from the TX bank with a TX license, but the moment you leave the shore, you must have an a OK license.

No place to put in on the Texas side you would have to go around to the Oklahoma side. Have seen Kayaks below the Dam but don't know how safe your vehicle would be. If you go let us know how it went.

Parking is safe enough, both sides, mainly cause there's often enough eyes around. You'll find excellent dragging and launching off sand on the OK side. Aside from the common species, you can catch a Skip Jack, and a big Blue (?) Sucker, that'll add some more exotic warm water species to your 'list', if your into that stuff.
Study bing.com birds eye satellite views, for the deep holes.
Also if you're there and the corp commences generating, dont worry, an experienced kayaker can work that current upstream, no problem.
Also #II, YOU CAN SEE EAGLES THERE! (part of a private joke, but it is really true, you can see bald eagles there)

The ONLY reason to fish with a fly rod in Texas is to throw a POPPER, casting any other type fly just means you're doing something.
