I've never been there but was planning on going Saturday before and after a family reunion in Athens. I was going to take my younger brother in law so I hope it picks up by then. Any tips or things to watch out for?

I was there yesterday. It is definitely a slow bite. Caught some fish but nothing to write home about. Red bug shad trick worm texas rigged is what worked for me. The only place i got bite was in the brush piles.

Have a great time... I caught a 10 lb hog last month on a red shad worm. fish the drop offs and grass beds. There are also several brush piles they like to hang on if you can find them. Lake is better fished at night.. Have a good one

Well shoot now it looks like rain all weekend. Not sure if it's worth pulling the boat up there for a 50% chance to fish a few hours. I've really been looking forward to fishing that lake but I know the rain is really needed. Ever tour the TPWD fishery there? That is the backup plan.

Plan on going to the Fish Hatchery! It's a pretty cool place to visit!

First time I went, I was suppose to fish with my Father In-Law and my wife's Uncle. It was raining that day so the bunch of us (wife, Father and Mother In-Law and wife's Aunt and Uncle)decided to drive down to the hatchery. Everyone had a great time.

Try and be there when the diver's feed the fish in the big aquarium. When I was there the last time they just got in the new Texas record blue catfish (I think it was a blue from Texoma). It was cool watching them feed tht big thing. I think it has died since then (not sure about that). Call the hatchery for feeding times.

Been back a few times since then.

Fishing on rainy days on Athens is the best time to fish out there it throws them into a feeding frenzy!

Rain doesn't bother me it's the lightning. I just hate to haul the boat for nothing. I'm still watching the weather but have to figure it out before we leave this evening.
